More hygiene measures despite limited resources: Welthungerhilfe constructs Tippy Taps all around the world
For more than a year now, one of the most important hygiene rules has been “wash your hands”. In Germany, it is self-evident to wash hands for 20-30 seconds under running water from the tap. But how can essential hygiene measures such as regular hand washing be realized in regions where water is scarce and difficult to access?
Part of the solution to the problem are so-called Tippy Taps, supported by the Welthungerhilfe in the context of its WASH projects. The Tippy Tap is a simple construction for water-saving and touch-free hand washing. Thanks to the Tippy Taps, even a small amount of water is sufficient to wash hands which is ideal for regions where water is barely available or only at a considerable distance. Moreover, it is easy to construct at a very low price: A few sticks, strings, a plastic canister and simple tools. The advantage over other systems using bowls, cups or even water taps is obvious: The hands only come into contact with the soap. This makes the Tippy Tap particularly hygienic. It results in bacteria, germs and even viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 having a harder time spreading.
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Welthungerhilfe is promoting the construction of even more Tippy Taps around the world. The V-LINE GROUP is proud to support these projects as one of the sponsors.
