V-LINE EUROPE IS EXHIBITOR AT 2005 JEDDAH WATER & POWER FORUM EXHIBITION
Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, 11/15/2005
V-LINE Europe utilized its stand at the just concluded 2005 Jeddah Water & Power Forum as part of its corporate strategic program for growth of its role in Saudi Arabia as a major procurement services provider. The November 12-14 Forum, which was endorsed by the Ministry of Water and Electricity, had as a main theme the Saudi plan for privatization of the Water and Power Industries.
With estimates of the power and water sectors each requiring a $100 billion spend to meet Kingdom needs to 2025, the Government for the past few years has put in place the policies and structures to guide privatization and provide a framework for attractive private investment opportunity. The details of this effort, and recent progress on first projects, were part of a forty presentation techno economic program drawing 350delegates.
Forum delegates and its hundred exhibitors were from public and private organizations representing global, regional and local interests in water, wastewater and electricity. There were Ministry leaders and staff, bankers and legal advisors plus officers, managers and engineers from giant multinational design/construction/consulting groups and equipment providers as well as executives of major mid-size equipment and service suppliers.
V-LINE has provided procurement services to large plants in Saudi Arabia for twenty-five years. Its focus has been on MRO (maintenance, repair and operations) parts and supplies to support foreign-made plant and equipment. Important customers have been SWCC desalination plants and SCECO electricity operations. “These units are part of the public restructuring, so Forum participation was a must for us to stay current with their on going changes and to better serve them” said V-LINE CEO Detlev Daues.
“We were also interested in new opportunities arising out of the privatization programs, for example the increased emphasis on wastewater treatment, and have been developing a services concept to address Saudi Water Industry plant MRO procurement needs broader than the desalination sectors we are now serving” said Turgay Temur, Head of V-LINE Logistics. “This concept will also benefit local suppliers to Saudi plants in addition to our cross border supplier partners” he said.
2005 Jeddah Water and Power Forum was promoted as a platform for policy-makers, investors and contractors to meet together and share knowledge and experiences towards achieving the goalsof the Kingdom’s water and electricity policies and privatization initiatives. According to Mr. Daues, for V-LINE it met that aim successfully. “For three days we were able to discuss our new concepts with prospective users and partners and we were encouraged by Officials to propose on a pilot project to test technical and operational aspects of the new service at a single location” he said.
